A grand show had had its London homecoming last night with an elegant and fashionable soiree. Alexandre McQueen’s famous friends attended to honour his memory and admire his talent. The exhibition is featuring material focussing on McQueen’s roots as a British upstart in London. From his Central Saint Martins MA graduate collection of 1992 through his first seven shockingly sensational shows that broke the boundaries between fashion and Art performance.
The President of Conde Nast International, Nicholas Coleridge noted that “around the world there are six or five stellar shows and this is clearly going to be one of them. And it’s exciting to see old friends of Lee McQueen, his family, all of them coming to this very glamorous Gala, right here in the middle of town.” The V&A was a place that Alexandre would come and find inspiration as he had said himself: “It’s the sort of place I’d like to be shut in overnight.”
