Art Basel Miami kicks off Thursday and it’s a can’t miss weekend where the beautiful people come to party, play and enjoy art, of course. Never been to Basel before? Here’s a primer on everything you need to know.
If you’re into the nightlife scene, South Beach is the spot to stay. The Blue Moon Hotel and Winter Haven Hotel are centrally located boutique hotels from the Autograph Collection sure to please the most discerning travlers. Both are located in Miami’s famed Art Deco district and are a stone’s throw away from the pristine beaches and luxury shops. Bonus: the hotels have free Wifi so you can stay connected during Basel.
But if you prefer big hotels versus boutiques, the Fontainebleau is your perfect place to stay. The iconic resort is massive and recently got a major facelift and billion dollar renovation back in 2009. The oceanfront property boasts multiple, free-form pools and spectacular views. Book a cabana and enjoy a cocktail and some eye candy poolside.
The W South Beach by Starwood combines a trendy vibe with world class service and a luxurious experience. The W South Beach is located on cosmopolitan Collins Ave, and has multiple restaurants, bars and even a club all on the the premises. Indulge yourself with a relaxing massage or facial at their Bliss Spa on site.
The food in Miami is fabulous, featuring lots of fresh seafood and flavor. Joe’s Stone Crab first opened back in 1913 and there’s a reason why their delicious claws served chilled with mustard are still famous a century later.
For succulent steak and a sexy scene, stop into Prime112. The truffled mac and cheese and kobe sliders are mouth-watering and best enjoyed with a martini. Montauk hotspot The Surf Lodge is taking over The Deauville Hotel and bringing their executive chef and staff down for Basel. Try one of their lobster rolls while enjoying live performances from St. Lucia and Wild Belle.
For the first time ever, Queen of the Night leaves it’s NYC venue at the Paramount Hotel for one night only at Art Basel on Wednesday. The wildly popular interactive performance, featuring acrobatics, striptease and more, will premiere at the Up&Down pop up in collaboration with Celebrating Women in Art: Creative Royalty. Joe Jonas and Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor are expected.
On Thursday evening, the Disaronno Terrace will pop up at Basel on the rooftop of the Gale Hotel, featuring artist Jeremy Penn’s latest collection “The Evolution and The Ego” in addition to delicious libations.
VH1 and Scope kick off their third annual party Friday with a DJ set by Swizz Beatz and interactive exhibit by artist and calligrapher Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic. You can also party with Paris Hilton, who’s deejaying at Wall inside the W Hotel.
For late night revelry and spotting stars, go dance at Le Baron and rub shoulders with the VIPs and beautiful people. Instead of rotating venues like it has in years past, they’re taking residency at the FDR Lounge at the Delano for their 10 year anniversary.
In South Beach, the weather is warm and skin is in so be sure to pack your best bikinis, cocktail dresses and high heels. If you’re coming from somewhere wintry like much of the world, fake a tan with St. Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil. It has a golden shimmer so you can apply it at night before going out and rinse it off in the morning to reveal a beautiful bronze for the beach, which lasts 10 days. Kate Moss swears by the product, so if it’s good enough for a supermodel, it’s good enough for us!
