I recently got married and I cannot begin to tell you the amount of energy I put in to finding a wedding look that was exactly what I wanted. For today, I thought it would be equally as important to give you all tips on wedding makeup. For that day you of course want makeup that is long-lasting, waterproof, and radiant.
Long-lasting makeup is essential on your big day, you will be emotional and dancing and sweating (I know we ladies like to pretend we don’t). My best tips are as follows.
1) Layer your makeup. Follow up every liquid/cream product with a powder. It may seem excessive but you will thank me when you are dancing at midnight and everything is still in its place.
Foundation set with powder
Cream Blush set with Powder Blush
Cream Bronzer set with a powder
Eyeshadow Primer set with your powder shadows
Liquid or Gel Liner set with a same color powder eyeshadow overtop.
2) Use a primer. This step is optional, I did not opt for primer on my wedding day because it breaks out my sensitive skin, and because I know how my foundation (Makeup Forever HD) wears on me since I use it all the time. However, if you’ve had the chance to test a primer a while before the wedding, and you know that it doesn’t irritate your skin, I would say go for it. It will keep everything on and from budging all day long.
3) Don’t use anything with SPF. You’ve probably heard it before but I cant stress it enough. On a day when you will be in the limelight with flash photography, the worst thing you can do is wear anything with SPF.
4) We all want that dewy, youthful glow on our wedding day. I believe a mistake people make is lack of powder. See the face as a canvas. Put on your foundation and powder everything well. Then, use a liquid or powder highlight only where you want to glow, such as the top of the cheekbones. You will look youthful not oily which is so much more beautiful.
Selfie of my look, I got married on July 4, 2014. It was so sticky hot and I took an enclosed carriage, and my makeup lasted!
Below I’ve put a list of my favorite face products, cream and their powder counterparts!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these pictures from my wedding day and the tips (which can by the way, be applied to ANY event!)
